  • Uruguay has first and only Free Ports on the Atlantic coast of South America (Law # 16.246).
  • No storage time limit. Merchandise destination may be freely changed.
  • Foreign companies can have their regional distribution center in Montevideo Freeport, like an extension of their own warehouse.
  • Change of ownerships of goods by documents process only.
  • During its stay, merchandise is free from all duties and surcharges applicable to imports.
  • Containers can enter Montevideo Freeport by sea without any authorization or formal procedures.
  • The Certificate of "Mercosur" Origin can be split as many as requested.
